Ingredient guide · Fuller's earth · Bentonite-type clay
Multani mitti — fuller's earth — is a soft, fine mineral clay that Indian households have used on skin and hair for generations. Its name comes from Multan, where it was once traded. In a soap, it brings that same clay-mask feel to an everyday wash.
The clay's fine particles soak up excess oil and the dirt that sits in it, then rinse away with the lather. Skin is left feeling clean and matte rather than shiny. Because it's a clay and not a harsh detergent, a well-made multani mitti bar does this without the squeaky, stripped feeling.
Very dry skin may find clay too drying for daily use. Pair it with a rich moisturiser, or use it a few times a week and a gentler bar on the other days.
For oily and combination skin, yes — a gentle multani mitti bar works well morning and night. If your skin is dry, use it a few times a week.
They are related absorbent clays used the same way on skin. Multani mitti is the traditional Indian fuller's earth; both soak up excess oil.
Yes, if the bar is made for face and body. Look for one with something softening in it, like rose, so it doesn't feel tight.
